With many smaller travel agencies struggling to sell trips that many can book themselves online, a number of tour operators have had to file for bankruptcy or shut down operations over the last year.

British travel agencies including New Era Travel, Regen Central, and most recently, Asiara Holidays, are just some of the companies that closed up shop over the last four months. In Europe, Tango Travel in Iceland, MixxTravel in Sweden, and Unitravelin Hungary also did not survive the end of 2025.

In the Canadian province of British Columbia, regulators recently also pulled the operating licenses of two travel agencies selling tours to popular holiday destinations like Las Vegas, after customer complaints of suspected fraud through nonexistent bookings.

Simply Florida Travel shuts down after losing operating license

A recent tour operator to shut down over its poor financial situation is Scottish travel agency Simply Florida Travel. Describing itself as a company that will help residents from Glasgow and other cities in the United Kingdom “build your dream trip,” the travel agency sold tour packages to Disney and Universal theme parks as well as multiple other cities and locations in North America.

According to the British Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Simply Florida was established in 2024. Before losing the Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing (ATOL), which is required of U.K. businesses selling tour packages, at the end of January, it dissolved itself on Jan. 6.

The agency operated as a franchise under the larger booking platform Travel Trust Association (TTA). In the U.K., customers who book trips with an ATOL license are guaranteed protection if a company falls apart, but the CAA told travelers with disrupted travel to first contact TTA for their booking and refund options.

It is not immediately clear how many trips in 2026 the company still sold or how many travelers are affected by cancellations.

Simply Florida Travel sold holiday packages to to Brits, specializing in theme parks like Disney World and Universal Studios.

Universal “The company, based in Glasgow, traded under the names Simply Florida Travel and website www.simplyfloridatravel.com,” the CAA statement says. “[…] Consumers who require assistance regarding their booking, should contact TTA directly by emailing customerservices@thetravelnetworkgroup.co.uk.”

The company itself has not issued a statement on the closure.

Travel news: On social media pages that have not been active since May 2025, Simply Florida Travel last advertised a seven-day North American tour including stops in New York City, Toronto, and Niagara Falls for January 2026. The price was £1,279 ($1,741 USD) per person for those departing from London Heathrow and £1,349 ($1,836) for those leaving from Manchester, Glasgow, or Newcastle.

The agency also asked for a deposit of £125 ($170 USD) per traveler to secure space on the trip.

“Simply Florida Travel [is] not just another travel agent, we are here to build your dream trip, whether it is two weeks in one hotel and visiting the parks or multiple hotels and different experiences we can help you with it all,” the description for the travel agency reads.
